Victoria – Yambuk Lake & Beach
When I got to Yambuk, the lake sat calm and glassy, tucked just inland with the ocean rolling beyond the dunes. It had that mellow, easy feel — shallow and flat, perfect for light wind foil runs or just cruising around on the wing. I wouldn’t call it a big session spot, more of a place to mess around, practice, or stretch out a lightwind day.
Over the dune (and yep, the giant slide is a thing), the beach opened wide. The shoreline ran long and low-angled, with Southern Ocean swell coming in gentle lines. The sand was forgiving underfoot, and the whole stretch felt laid-back. Close to shore the wind flickered with a bit of dune shadow, but once I pushed out further the air smoothed out and the riding got clean.
There wasn’t anyone else around when I was there — no schools, no regulars — so it was all about checking the tide, reading the wind, and making it up as I went. It’s the kind of spot that feels like it gives more the more you’re willing to explore.
