Exmouth – Town Beach

Welcome to Exmouth’s go-to kite spot when the easterlies are on. Town Beach lights up early with a clean E to ESE land breeze funnelling straight off the Cape. The result? Butter-flat water, smooth airflow, and a waist-deep lagoon that turns on just as the sun comes up. It’s a favourite for a reason — quiet, accessible, and all about timing.

This is a morning-only session genereally. By mid to late morning, the wind usually fades as the heat builds, so get down early and rig while the sun is still rising if the forecast calls for it.

Tide matters here. You’ll want to aim for 2–3 hours either side of high — anything less and you’ll be dragging your kite across exposed reef and ankle-deep puddles. Booties are a good call unless you’ve got feet like leather.

Avoid launching near the yacht club — the SE wind shadow makes it gusty and unreliable. Head a little north and you’ll find better angles and cleaner airflow across the lagoon.

Beginner-friendly when the tide’s right, but don’t forget: it’s offshore. That means solid upwind skills and a reliable self-rescue if something goes sideways. Not the spot to push boundaries if you're not confident.

Flat, warm, and peaceful — Town Beach is Exmouth in its element. Time it right, and you’ll have the Gulf to yourself while the rest of town’s still waking up.
