Torpedo Bay – Western Australia
Welcome to Torpedo Bay — remote, raw, and tucked away in WA’s coastal crown. This isn’t a spot you stumble across… it’s one you plan for, chase tides, check charts, and hope the wind gods are feeling generous.
When it works, it’s magic. SE to S winds blow cross to cross-on into the bay, creating wide-open stretches of flatwater inside and some clean little ramps on the outer edge. The surrounding reef keeps things playful but watch your lines — it’s shallow in places and not very forgiving.
They call it Graveyards for a reason. Boards, fins, confidence — all left behind on the reef by those who got a little too sendy or missed the tide window. It’s beautiful, but it bites.
Best on mid to high tide. Low tide can leave you walking over reef flats and questioning your life choices. Advanced kiters only — not because it’s crazy technical, but because if you stuff it up out here, it’s a long walk back and no one’s coming to rescue your board.
You’ll sometimes be sharing the zone with fishers, dive boats, and the odd local chasing trevally off the reef. It’s not busy, but it’s not empty either — give way, be cool.
No amenities, no phone signal, no excuses. Just wind, water, and the kind of silence that makes you feel small in the best possible way.
