Tantabiddi – Ningaloo Reef, WA
Welcome to Tantabiddi, the western window into the Ningaloo — raw, remote, and ridiculously beautiful. This spot sits just inside Cape Range National Park, with direct access to the outer reef and some of the clearest water you’ll ever see.
When the SW to S winds start cooking in the afternoon, they wrap cross-shore into the lagoon, creating a dreamy combo of butter flat inside and playful reef breaks out wide. Mid to high tide is your friend — anything less and you’re threading through coral heads with very little margin for error. Definitely not a learner spot.
Launching’s tight, the reef is close, and the current can rip if you drift too far off the mark. Booties are smart, a buddy is smarter, and keeping your lines high and tight is key. But if you know what you're doing? It's magic. Glassy turquoise flats, long walls of swell, and an underwater world you’ll probably see more of than you'd expect.
Note: This is also an active launch site for dive boats, tour vessels, and recreational fishers, so marine traffic can get very busy during the season. Stay sharp, respect right-of-way, and avoid blocking the channel or anchorage zone.
Bring everything — it’s national park territory, so no shops, no service, and no sympathy if you forget your pump.
