South Australia – Sultana Point
Welcome to the southern claw of the Yorke Peninsula — Sultana Point, where salt-crusted cliffs meet roaring ocean and the wind never whispers. This is where kiters come not just to ride, but to remember what it feels like to really send it. No cafes, no crowds — just wind, waves, and the kind of rugged silence that echoes through your bones.
When the SE to SW winds are on, Sultana comes alive. On mid to low tide, a sandbar forms just offshore, creating a mirror-flat lagoon that’s butter smooth and perfect for speed runs, foil carving, or freestyle with a pulse. The reefed points outside throw up rideable swell, and when it’s honking, you can kite it offshore — yep, offshore — thanks to the layout of the bay and surrounding terrain.
The launch is surprisingly easy for a place this remote — wide, sandy, and clean enough to rig without fuss. Once you’re in, it’s game on. Just keep one eye on the swell and one hand on your safety — the rip can pull when the surf’s big, and there's no one coming to fetch you if you stuff it.
