South Australia – Smoky Bay

Welcome to Smoky Bay — a quiet pocket on the Eyre Peninsula where oysters outnumber people and the wind rolls in steady across shallow, open water. It’s peaceful, spacious, and built for riders who like their sessions smooth and simple.

This spot comes alive on SE to SW winds, giving you clean cross-onshore conditions. On a mid to high tide, it’s all about butter-flat lagoons stretching out over sandbars. Gust swings of up to 5 knots are typical, but mostly it’s mellow and cruisy.

The beach here is shelly and coarse, so if you like your canopy crisp, we recommend drift launching in the shallows. Rig on the grass or gravel verge, walk your lines out, and let the wind do the work as you ease into the water.
