Victoria – Skenes Creek

Welcome to Skenes Creek — tucked into the Great Ocean Road just north of Apollo Bay, where steep hills meet Southern Ocean energy and the beach does its own thing. It’s rugged, scenic, and one of those spots you don’t stumble into by accident.

The beach faces southeast, pulling in consistent swell, with sets wrapping into the bay and offering some nice wave play when the wind cooperates. Best on a southwest to southeast breeze — cross-onshore, clean, and usually lighter in the mornings before it builds. It’s not a spot for flatwater days — this one’s got energy.

Shorebreak varies with the tide, and there’s often a bit of reef movement and rip action near the rocky ends — so scope it out before launching. Kiteable? Yeah, when the wind’s right and you’re confident in the surf. Wing and surf foilers will probably get more consistent joy here, especially on lighter wind days.

Access is easy with parking right off the road, and the foreshore caravan park’s close enough to crash after a big session. Facilities are basic but there.

Skenes Creek isn’t polished or popular — but it’s real, raw, and rewards those who know what to do with an open beach and a bit of swell.
