Sunset Cove – Port Denison, WA

Welcome to Sunset Cove — a low-key coastal launch tucked right into the southern edge of Port Denison, just a few minutes from Dongara. Don’t let the mellow name fool you — when the seabreeze kicks in, this spot lights up with clean lines and that classic mid-west WA charm.

This stretch thrives on SW winds, which blow cross-shore into the cove and shape the inside into butter flat for freestyle, foil, and chill freeride. Out back, you’ll find mellow swell lines when the ocean’s breathing. The seabreeze builds nicely through the afternoon, especially on warmer days when the inland heat draws it in hard.

Mid to high tide gives you the best water depth. Low tide exposes reef and turns the entry into a rocky puzzle — not ideal unless you know the layout well. The beach itself is narrow but riggable, and access is still via a simple path leading down from the track.

It’s also a good end spot for a little downwinder adventure when surfing the reef behind the harbour — just time it right with the tide and wind.

This one’s for intermediate and up — not because it’s wild, but because it’s out of the way and there’s not much backup if something goes wrong. But if you want a session with glassy flats, seabreeze juice, and barely another kite in sight, Sunset Cove is the one.
