Sandy Cape – Western Australia
Welcome to Sandy Cape — a slice of remote coast just north of Jurien Bay where the dunes are tall, the sand’s powdery white, and the wind shows up like clockwork. It’s a 4WD-only playground that’s become a favourite for kiters who like their sessions wild, simple, and salt-scrubbed.
The SW seabreeze is king here, blowing cross to cross-onshore through the afternoons. It funnels in clean over the reef-sheltered bay, creating a dreamy combo of flatwater inside the reef and rolling bumps out back. Ideal for freeride, foiling, and even wave play when the swell wraps in.
Mid to high tide is your sweet spot — low tide exposes reef and turns launch zones crunchy. There’s plenty of room to rig, but the beach can narrow quickly with the tide, so timing matters.
It’s beginner-manageable on light days but really shines for intermediate to advanced riders chasing freedom and foam. There’s no facilities, just a basic campground, some shady trees, and the kind of peace that makes you forget what day it is.
Bring everything. Leave no trace. And don’t be surprised if a couple of emus cruise past your kite while you’re packing down.
