Port Kennedy – WA

Welcome to Port Kennedy — the sleeper pick sitting just south of the buzz at Safety Bay. It doesn’t get the hype, but when the seabreeze kicks in, this spot delivers clean, cross-shore wind and a long, open beach with fewer kites in the sky and way more breathing room.

Best on a SW seabreeze, which rolls in smooth and steady through the afternoon. It’s cross-shore to cross-on depending on how far south you ride. The water can get a little choppy, especially on lower tides, but there are patches of flatter water tucked in behind the sandbanks and near the reef breaks offshore.

Launch is easy — wide beach, clean rigging zone, and plenty of room to self-launch if you’re confident. Mid tide up is best for launching and landing. Low tide exposes some reef and weed beds closer to the shoreline.

Beginner-friendly on lighter days, with room to drift and reset, but it’s more of a freeride spot than a teaching ground. Ideal for those looking to escape the crowd but still score solid metro conditions.

No facilities right on the sand, but you’re close to town. Bring water, bring patience for the occasional gust, and enjoy one of Perth’s quieter little gems.
