South Australia – Port Gibbon: The Sanctuary

Welcome to The Sanctuary — where ochre cliffs crumble into teal-blue glass and the sea whispers “stay awhile.” Tucked away on the Eyre Peninsula’s eastern flank, this remote reef-fringed bay faces east-northeast, making it a sneaky little gem when the SE wind’s got some angle or if you're chasing glass on a light NE.

There’s a gentle curve to the bay, with some protection from swell but not from the breeze — which wraps clean around the headland and fills in nicely across the water. Low tide reveals a reefy playground, so booties are your mate unless you’re confident dancing over rocks. Mid to high tide? Smooth cruising over sandy shallows with just enough depth to throw spray.

Launch is best from the beach near the camp zone — but respect the name “Sanctuary.” Keep it low-key, leave no trace, and share the space with the pelicans and solitude seekers.
