Victoria – Portarlington
Welcome to Portarlington — a mellow stretch on the Bellarine Peninsula that quietly delivers when the wind lines up. It’s not flashy, but it’s got space, flatwater, and a laid-back vibe that makes it a solid pick for cruisy sessions.
Works best on a southwesterly to westerly breeze, especially in the warmer months when the seabreeze fills in. Expect 10–20 knots on a good day, with mostly smooth water and minimal chop — ideal for freestyle, foiling, or just cruising out wide.
The main launch is near the breakwater — easy gradient, good space, but can get gusty when the wind funnels. Inside the harbour, it’s more protected and smoother — ideal for freestyle or foil play. Outside is a different beast, with reefy sections and punchy swell — advanced riders only.
Parking’s easy, there are toilets and town supplies nearby, and the fish and chips are worth the post-session wait. Just steer clear of the boat ramp and respect working water traffic.
Portarlington isn’t polished — but it’s proper. Bring your edge, your big kite, or your smallest foil, and be ready to adapt. This place rewards the rider who can read the sea and roll with it.
