South Australia – Davenport Creek Road & Point Peter

Welcome to the wind-laced backwaters of Ceduna — where Davenport Creek flows like silk into turquoise shallows, and Point Peter stands guard over one of the most underrated kite playgrounds in the state. Don’t let the wild beauty fool you — this one’s closer to town, easier to access, and more rideable than it looks.

Davenport Creek is all about flatwater and space. On a good S to SW breeze, the place becomes pure magic — sandbars stretching wide, mirror-flat surfaces, and knee-to-waist-deep goodness that’ll have you carving like you're on rails. It’s beginner friendly when the tides line up and a freestyle haven when the wind builds.

Just around the corner, Point Peter’s northern beach offers wide sandflats and a shifting spit that opens into more rideable lagoon. The southern side, though beautiful, is more exposed with surf and rips — best admired or surfed rather than kited unless you know exactly what you’re doing.

Best part? You don’t need a monster truck to get here. The beach is accessible via 2WD along Davenport Creek Road with a bit of care. Pull up, rig on the sand, and launch straight into it. No multi-hour dune mission, no backcountry gamble — just a quick drive and you’re riding.

Simple. Pure. Wind-fed and tide-carved. Davenport and Point Peter bring the west coast energy without the epic effort — and they’ll keep calling you back.
