Western Australia – Avalon Beach – Mandurah

Welcome to Avalon Beach. Tucked just south of Mandurah in the Falcon area, this spot has long been a favourite for local kiters and wave chasers. When the NE or NNE winds start pushing through, it turns into a proper little playground.

It’s not a beginner spot — shallow reef, punchy waves, and gusty fronts can make it a bit spicy. But if you’re comfortable in the surf and keen to throw some spray, you’ll find plenty to play with here.

The outer reef sets up a nice left-hander on the right conditions, and there’s a bit of flat water between the breaks to boost or cruise. You’ll want to hit it with the right tide and a bit of local knowledge, though — it can get shallow quick and isn’t very forgiving.

Access is easy from the end of Yeedong Road, and 4WDs can sometimes make it onto the beach if conditions allow.

If you’re keen to explore more around Mandurah, check out Pyramids Beach on a similar wind — just expect a bit more exposure and punch in the swell.
