Victoria – Lorne
Welcome to Lorne — postcard town, tourist favourite, and not your average kite stop. The beach is long and clean, but it's fully exposed to swell, and the surrounding cliffs and hills can mess with the wind.
On a good SE to S wind, you’ll get cross-onshore conditions and room to move. But when it’s onshore and the swell’s pumping, the shorebreak gets heavy, and holding ground becomes a proper workout. Definitely not for beginners. If you’re not confident launching in shore dump or navigating rips, this one can get sketchy quick.
That said, it’s a stunning session when it lines up. Wide beach, space to launch, and a rare mix of power and scenery. Just be sharp with your self-rescue game — the sweep can drag fast, and there’s a lot of beachgoer traffic in warmer months.
Intermediate and up only. Plenty of cafés for the post-session wind-down, but ride smart — it’s not as mellow as it looks.
