Western Australia – Lancelin

Welcome to Lano — the kitesurf capital of WA’s west coast and the stuff of wind-chaser legend. Just under two hours north of Perth, this little fishing town lights up when the summer seabreeze rolls in, and it’s not shy about showing off.

From November through March, the iconic SW seabreeze (aka the Fremantle Doctor) funnels in daily, clocking in steady and strong. Cross-onshore, clean, and perfect for everything from freestyle to boosting to chasing little waves on the outer reef.

You’ve got a few options here — Main Beach is the go-to for launching, with a massive stretch of sand and deep enough water close in. Perfect for twintippers, foilers, wings, and beginners — though it does get busy.

Further north, the reef forms epic butter-flat lagoons on low tide, and if you want waves, the break out back delivers on a decent swell. There’s always someone boosting to the moon or spinning something upside-down out there — it’s just that kind of spot.

Be respectful of the launch zones, especially around the dunes — and if you're not riding upwind confidently, give the crowds space and head downwind a little. Lano is welcoming, but it runs on a bit of unwritten etiquette.

The town itself is classic WA. Pub, bakery, servo. Everything you need, nothing you don’t. Post-session beers at the tav with salt still on your skin and gear flung across the lawn is the norm.

You’ll remember Lancelin for the wind — but it’s the community, chaos, and that golden hour glow that makes it a rite of passage for every kiter in WA.
