South Australia – Milang, Lake Alexandrina

Welcome to Milang — the freshwater frontier where wind junkies trade salt spray for stillness and serenity. Perched on the edge of Lake Alexandrina, this inland playground offers wide open butter flats and summer thermals that funnel in from the south like clockwork.

SSE to SSW is the sweet spot, with afternoons often lighting up between 15–25 knots, perfect for long tacks and freestyle flicks without a ripple from the sea. But don’t be fooled — the launch here’s not as friendly as the water. Narrow shorelines, reeds, and submerged bits mean you’ll want a buddy and sharp eyes.

Still, once you’re out there it’s smooth sailing and mirror-still patches for days. A change of pace from coastal chaos — Milang rewards the prepared and punishes the complacent. Pack a camp chair, bring your own shade, and ride till the sky bleeds orange.
