Victoria – Kennett River

Tucked neatly along a wild bend of the Great Ocean Road, Kennett River feels like it’s just waiting to be found. But for kiting? You’ll want to pause before rigging up.

The terrain’s stunning — thick bush spilling onto a curved sandy beach, but it’s narrow and hemmed in by cliffs and forest. Wind access is patchy and often obstructed unless it’s a clean SE–E direction. Even then, the launch is cramped and tide-dependent, and beachgoers are common in warmer months.

More of a surf and wildlife stop, really. Koalas in the trees, parrots on your van — it’s nature’s chill zone. If you’re chasing wind, drive on and log this one in the ‘rest day with binoculars’ category. Apollo Bay or Marengo will serve you better on the kiteboard.
