Western Australia – Jurien Bay
Welcome to Jurien — where fishing boats bob in the harbour and the seabreeze shows up like clockwork. Just a couple hours north of Perth, this little town’s been quietly building a rep among kiters chasing reliable wind, open beaches, and fewer crowds than the big-name spots.
Jurien’s main kite zone is just south of the marina — wide open beach, cross-onshore SW to SSW winds, and a mellow gradient that makes it beginner-friendly, especially on mid to high tide. You’ve got plenty of space to launch and ride, with easy parking right by the sand.
The water’s a mix of gentle chop and playful kickers depending on the wind strength and tide — not butter-flat, but definitely fun. On the right day, you can sneak out to the outer reef and score some smooth lines and little peelers if you’re on a surfboard or foil.
Best time to ride? November through March, with afternoon seabreezes that typically ramp up from 1–2pm onwards. Keep an eye on the forecast though — Jurien can fire, but it can also tease with lighter days compared to spots like Lancelin.
The town’s got a cruisy holiday vibe — fish and chips on the jetty, bakery pies that hit different after a session, and a good mix of locals and road-trippers. Great stop for a couple of days on a northbound mission, especially if you're not in the mood for the madness of Lano. J
urien Bay’s the kind of place you roll into thinking you’ll just check it out — then end up staying two days longer than planned. Just you, your kite, the sea breeze, and that big WA sky.
