South Australia – Haycock Point, Carrickalinga

Welcome to Haycock Point — where the road ends, the reef begins, and the gulf stretches out like it forgot how to end. You can literally park with sand under your tyres here — no hike, no hike-your-kite — just open your door, rig up, and step into it.

Set between North and South Carrickalinga, this headland punches out with ancient lava rock and cradles two beaches that light up on the right kind of southwesterly. Clean wind, turquoise water, and that rare sense that you’ve stumbled on a secret — even though it’s hiding in plain sight.

The bay is forgiving, the vibe is low-key, and the water plays nice unless a sneaky reef shelf reminds you it’s not all soft edges. Not a place for boosting to the moon — more for carving, cruising, and soaking in the raw, quiet drama of this coastline.

Bring your gear, bring your chill, and maybe a mate to nod at while you both float back in grinning.
