Western Australia – Port Gregory / Pink Lake
Welcome to Port Gregory — that place with the bright pink lake you’ve seen on postcards… and somehow, it’s even better with a kite in the air.
Just north of Geraldton, this low-key fishing village punches above its weight when the seabreeze kicks in. You’ve got the Indian Ocean out front, a reef sheltering the inside for flatter runs, and a bubblegum lagoon glowing behind you like something out of a dream.
Wind shows up like clockwork in summer — SW seabreezes pushing through from late morning and cranking by arvo. Expect clean wind, wide sandy beaches, and barely another kite in sight.
Intermediate and up will have a field day here — the launch is chill, the water’s fun, and the reef adds a bit of spice. Just be reef-smart on lower tides — there’s some chunky stuff hiding just under the surface.
There’s not much in town — a servo, a caravan park, and a few sleepy locals who’ll watch you boost while gutting fish. So bring what you need, ride with a mate, and soak in the weird and wonderful backdrop.
And no — you shouldn’t kite on the pink lake... But you’ll want a drone shot or ten with it behind you. It’s that kind of place.
