Western Australia – Greenough River Mouth (Cape Burney)

Welcome to Greenough — a raw little gem just 10 minutes south of Gero, where the river hits the sea and the seabreeze funnels in hard from the SW.

Low to mid tide gives you butter inside the river for freestyle or foiling, while the ocean side serves up playful bumps and space to roam. Just know the river mouth is always changing — sandbars, current, even the entry point shifts, so check before you launch.

It’s a great downwinder starting point too — cruise north to Tarcoola or even into town if you’ve got support lined up.

Beginner-friendly on the right day, but better suited to confident riders. Booties optional, reef awareness essential. Quiet vibe, caravan park on-site, and Geraldton just up the road for post-session feeds or backup spots.

Greenough's wild, windy, and never the same twice — and that’s what makes it gold.
