Western Australia – Green Head

Welcome to Green Head — the chilled cousin of Leeman, tucked halfway up the coast between Perth and Geraldton. It’s the kind of spot that doesn’t say much, but when the seabreeze rolls in, it speaks your language loud and clear.

The summer SW seabreezes kick in from late morning and settle into clean cross-onshore by early arvo. The main beach has a mellow curve and a few reef fingers out back, giving you a mix of cruisy chop, flat sections, and playful little kickers if the swell’s running.

Best on mid to high tide — low can expose some reefy bits and shallow patches, so keep your eyes peeled on your first run. Solid for intermediates and up. Beginners can give it a go, but there’s not much help around if it all goes wrong, so bring a buddy and know your limits.

There’s usually no one else out, which makes it feel like you’ve scored your own private coastal track. Launch off the main beach or scout a little further north depending on the wind angle.

The town’s small — think bakery, servo, and a few laid-back locals — but that’s the charm. It’s also a solid stopover between Lancelin and Geraldton if you’re on a road mission.

Green Head’s not loud, but it delivers: good wind, open space, and that easy WA pace that keeps you coming back.
