Western Australia – Geraldton
Welcome to Gero — the wind capital of the mid-west, where seabreezes hit hard, spots are stacked, and the local crew doesn’t mess around. If you’re chasing consistency, options, and easy access, Geraldton delivers.
The summer SW seabreeze kicks in like clockwork from October through March, often blowing 20–30 knots by early arvo. It’s cross-on to cross-shore depending on the beach, and you’ve got choices:
St George’s / Sunset Beach – Freeride heaven with a mix of chop and ramps. Easy launch, solid wind, but watch the shorey on bigger swell.
Separation Point – More advanced, with a left-hand wave that peels clean on a good day. Great for directional riders. Best avoided if you're not confident in waves.
Point Moore – Popular and powerful. Side-on wind, decent waves, and space to play. The reef can be sketchy on low tide, so check it first.
Geraldton’s good for all levels — you can find a mellow patch or throw yourself into full-send territory depending on where you go. The town is dialled in for kiters too: gear shops, cafes, fish and chips, and plenty of wind-savvy locals.
This isn’t a sleepy surf town — it’s a kite town with grit, gusts, and a hell of a lot of coastline to explore. Stay a while — Gero gets under your skin in all the right ways.
