Victoria – Fitzroy River Mouth

Welcome to the Fitzroy River Mouth — raw coastline meets river outflow, with shifting sandbars and a whole lot of ocean energy. This spot doesn’t see much traffic, which is exactly why you’d come. It’s rough, remote, and when it’s on, it’s all yours.

Works best in SE to S winds for cross-onshore sessions. Expect decent swell, strong current flow at the mouth, and ever-changing sandbanks. It’s not mellow — this one’s for experienced riders who are comfortable in surfy conditions and don’t mind earning their ride.

There’s not much beach to work with at high tide, and rigging is on sand peppered with driftwood. That said, score the right window and you’re in for a proper Southern Ocean session.

Camping Just upstream is a basic bush-style campground — Fitzroy River Reserve. It’s got toilets, bins, and a grassy spot by the river. Cheap, often free outside peak times, and only a short stroll to the mouth. Perfect base camp for a weekend hit, just bring water and be self-sufficient.

No crowds. No shops. No dramas — unless you mess with the tide or underestimate the conditions.
