South Australia – Waterloo Bay, Elliston

Welcome to Waterloo Bay — a sweeping crescent of coast where the cliffs stand tall, the wind rolls clean off the Bight, and the water can go from mellow to mayhem depending on where you launch.

The beach has a steady, forgiving gradient — sandy, accessible, and with enough space to spread your wings. On a good day, you’ll catch SSW to WSW breezes funnelling into the bay, turning it into a playground for freeriders and foilers alike. Out front it’s mostly choppy, but hunt the tucked-in corners and you’ll find smoother sections to carve through.

The town’s just over your shoulder, with a caravan park and bakery that somehow always smells like fresh pies. It’s quiet here, and the locals like it that way — don’t expect crowds, just open water and the occasional seal checking you out mid-session.

Offshore swell breaks further out for the brave, but close to shore it’s manageable and beginner-friendly on calmer days. Simple and wild
