Western Australia – Dwyer’s Leap (Carnarvon)
Welcome to Dwyer’s Leap — a salty little back pocket just outside Carnarvon where red dirt meets shallow blue and the seabreeze rolls in hotter than you’d expect. It’s not on many radars, but for those passing through, it’s the perfect reset when you need one.
Just a few kays out of town down Babbage Island Road, this spot dishes up reliable southerlies from October to April, with waist-deep water that stretches out for ages. Ideal for progression, mellow cruising, or just escaping the mainland madness for a bit.
You’ll probably be sharing the beach with a few fishos chasing bream and flathead — and maybe a pelican or two giving you side-eye if you stack it close to shore. It’s also home to Carnarvon Windfest, a low-key celebration of the local wind sports crew that’s been drawing in riders for years.
It’s mellow, open, and quiet. No facilities, no hype, no stress. Just bring your gear, your water, and your don’t-need-much attitude. It’s not a spot you’ll brag about — but it might be the one that sticks with you.
Dwyer’s is a reset button with wind. Pull in, rig up, and let it blow the dust off.
