Western Australia – City Beach (Perth)
Welcome to City Beach — Perth’s polished front lawn, where white sand meets café brunch, and the ocean looks better than it rides. This one’s not really about chasing kites… unless you’re looking to leave it.
Tight beaches, gusty wind, and plenty of flags make City Beach a sketchy spot to launch — but it plays a crucial role in Perth’s downwinder scene. When that summer southerly kicks in, this is one of the go-to launch points for a cruisy run up the coast to Trigg or even Scarborough.
The ride? Open water, rolling bumps, and a solid left-hand rail the whole way. You’ll get swell to play with, a few kickers to launch off, and Perth’s coastline sliding past on your right. Pull out at Trigg, or keep pushing if your legs are game and you’ve got your pickup sorted.
On land, City Beach is all café decks, changerooms, and people pretending not to notice the sunset. There’s a reason locals love it, even if they’re not flying lines. If the wind’s no good, you’re still winning — surf’s decent, food’s better, and the views don’t miss.
City Beach isn’t the session — it’s the send-off. Rig up, ride smart, and let the Doctor carry you north.
