South Australia – Blackfellows Caves
Welcome to Blackfellows Caves — a low-key limestone point with sheltered pockets either side and a reef that knocks the swell down just enough to make it interesting.
This isn’t a high-adrenaline kite zone, but when the SE to ESE winds are on, this little point funnels breeze into a surprisingly workable bay. The reef acts like a natural breakwall, keeping things flatter on the inside where fishing boats moor, and letting a bit of swell sneak through the gaps for wing foilers and cruisy riders.
Launch from the sandy stretches either side of the point — east side on an ESE, west if there’s more south in it. The reef makes it safer than most spots around here, but it’s still remote and rocky, so go with a mate and keep your wits about you.
Forget crowds. If you’re here, it’s just you, the salt air, and maybe a local pulling cray pots. Respect the space — and if the wind’s up, you’ll be quietly grinning for the rest of the day.
