Victoria – Anglesea River Mouth

Welcome to Anglesea — better known for surf schools and family beach days, but when the wind swings up the coast, the river mouth turns into a cheeky little kite playground.

Best on SE to E winds, which blow side-on into the bay. The river mouth opens up a small launch area with a mellow gradient and enough space at lower tides to get a kite in the air. It’s mostly shallow, with small waves outside the mouth that can offer a bit of fun for confident beginners or flatwater cruisers.

The town’s just behind you, so it’s one of the easier access spots along the Great Ocean Road — but don’t expect space to yourself on a sunny weekend. Onshore winds tend to pile in a bit of chop, so it’s not glassy lagoon riding, but it’s an option if you're local or passing through and see a puff.

Avoid on SW or W — the wind goes offshore and gusty, and it’s not worth the trouble.
