Victoria – Altona Beach

Welcome to Melbourne’s flatwater playground. Altona’s the local’s choice when the breeze’s up and you don’t want to mission too far out of town.

Best on S, SE, or SW winds, Altona dishes up clean cross-on conditions with a big sandbar that keeps things butter flat on the inside. Mid to high tide is your window — shallow enough to stand, deep enough to ride. Great for beginners, foilers, or anyone chasing freestyle practice.

Launch near the pier or the grass at the eastern end — easy rigging, loads of space, and usually a few other kiters around. Local schools operate here, so it’s a friendly, forgiving spot to progress.

Gets busy on summer weekends, so bring your chill and watch your lines. Outside the bar, there’s enough chop to keep it interesting if you want to push it a bit.
