Turquoise Bay – Cape Range, WA
Welcome to Turquoise Bay — and yep, the name doesn’t lie. Nestled inside Cape Range National Park and fringed by the Ningaloo Reef, this is one of the most visually stunning spots you’ll ever ride… if you time it right.
It’s not a regular kiting beach, more of a rare treat when all the elements line up. SE to S winds sneak in during the arvos, but you’ll want them to be light to moderate — anything too strong and it starts messing with the currents and gets a little too dicey, even for the confident crew.
The water? Unreal. Think reef-sheltered, crystal-clear blues over shallow sandbars, with long stretches of flat and the occasional playful bump out deeper. Definitely not for beginners — the current here rips like a treadmill and the reef edges can chew through your gear (or your leg) if you’re not switched on.
No launch zones marked, no support around — this one’s for experienced riders only and best with a buddy. Keep it low-key, leave no trace, and treat it like the national treasure it is.
